Welcome to the Power Arena. In the professional world, the 'Boardroom' is more than a physical space; it is a psychological ecosystem where where Dominance meets Compliance, and where Influence is either a weapon or a shield. A place where success is dictated by how you well you read the Behavioural DNA of the room.
This section of the Laboratory uses iconic television dramas as 'live demonstrations' of DISC Personality theory in the wild, as it were. We aren't just looking at lawyers and doctors; we are observing how high-stakes environments amplify personality traits. From the aggressive litigation of New York to the life-or-death diagnostic rooms of Princeton-Plainsboro, these Case Studies show you how to read the room before you even step inside.
Would you like to refresh your memory or learn more about the DISC Personality Model before exploring the protagonists' behaviours in these shows?
Case Study: Suits
In the glass-and-steel skyscrapers of Manhattan, Pearson Specter Litt is more than a law firm—it is a battlefield. Here, "winning" is the only currency that matters. This is a "Zero-Sum" environment where "good" isn't enough; you must be the best, or you are gone. The culture is built on high-stakes gambling, tailored three-piece suits, and the constant threat of exposure. Here, we observe "Extreme Behaviours" used to negotiate, intimidate, and protect.
The Architect. Jessica leads with iron-fisted elegance. Her Dominance is absolute, and it's backed by her High 'C' Compliance and expertise that ensure her firm’s survival, overriding personal feelings. Jessica is the Managing Partner who plays chess while everyone else plays checkers.
In a world that values arrogant power over quiet gravitas, she is the lioness who may only be underestimated at her challengers' peril.

The Closer. A high-profile force of nature. His High D/i profile makes him a charismatic force who maintains absolute emotional detachment. Harvey lives by the creed "Win a no-win situation by rewriting the rules." His Dominance is aggressive, but his Influence allows him to charm a jury—or a witness—into submission.
Harvey wins! And when the others call it luck, Harvey says, "I don't get lucky. I make my own luck!"

The Prodigy. Coming from street survival into the world of tailored suits and stratagems, Mike was hired for the photographic memory he had despite a law degree he hadn’t earned. His High 'I' influence makes him relatable to everyone, while his high 'S' Steadfastness and empathy often put him at odds with Harvey’s "cold" logic. Driven by an innate desire to help, Mike's High 'i' makes him the conscience of the firm.
View: Mike, our underdog genius often puts his foot in it, but (almost) always manages to survive. Return here after watching the video.
The Technician. Louis is a master of the granular. His High ‘C’ Compliance and Comprehensiveness—eye for detail—are his primary weapon; he knows the bylaws and accounting codes better than anyone, using them to trap opponents in technicalities.
His Secondary ‘S’ (Steadiness) fuels his intense desire for a "family" atmosphere at the firm. When he feels excluded or unappreciated, his emotions become volatile. He is driven by a need for structure, precision, and—above all—recognition of his technical brilliance.
The Oracle. Donna’s superpower is her High 'i' (Influence). She possesses an uncanny ability to read people and manipulate social dynamics to her advantage.
Her Secondary 'S'—Steadiness—makes her the firm’s ultimate gatekeeper; she is the "glue" that keeps Harvey and the office together. She values interpersonal connection, harmony and loyalty, often acting as the "conscience" for the more aggressive 'D' profiles in the room. Donna understands human motivation better than anyone in the building.
The Perfectionist. A paralegal with a fierce work ethic, Rachel has a massive chip on her shoulder.
Unappreciated by her father, who is himself a tough and popular lawyer, she is driven by her High ‘C’ Conscientiousness to ensure she is the best at the "grind" as she fears being 'just' a paralegal.
Her secondary behavioural trait, Influence, helps her navigate the firm's complex ego-politics as well as becoming the emotional bridge for Mike.
This is the "Theatre of the Absurd," where emotional intelligence—and emotional instability—are the primary drivers of the case. Their lives don't end at 5:00 PM; the real trials often take place at the classy bar at the base of their building, where they socialise, drink, and decompress to the soulful tunes of the inimitable Vonda Shepard.
The Opportunist. Richard is the firm’s engine, driven by an unapologetic High 'D' Dominance and desire for wealth and status. He masks his bluntness with "Fish-isms" [often ridiculous, abrasive words of wisdom] and a High 'i' charm that keeps the office atmosphere eccentric yet profitable.
He views the law as a tool for personal gain, navigating the boardroom with a "Short-Form" strategy: make the decision, take the fee, and move on to the next shiny object.
"The Biscuit". A technical mastermind whose High 'C' Compliance is his primary defence. John is a brilliant litigator who uses "the Putter" [his "Poughkeepsie" verbal tick] and squeaky shoes to distract and win. He also relies on rigid rituals, eccentric habits, and exhaustive research to control the courtroom environment. His Secondary 'S' makes him the firm’s most reliable ally; he is steadfast, patient, and deeply protective of his partners. He wins not through aggression, but through meticulous preparation and the ability to out-wait his opponents.
The Anchor. Ally’s childhood love, Billy represents the firm's Steadfast core. Methodical, dependable, and a traditionalist, he provides the emotional stability that the more eccentric partners lack. While he leads with a High 'S' desire for harmony, he possesses a "Hidden D" that emerges when his principles are challenged. He is the realistic counterpoint to the office fantasies, motivated by duty and a sense of professional legacy.

The Diplomat. The "grown-up" in the room. She is Billy’s wife and a formidable lawyer in her own right. Her Steadfastness allowed her to handle Ally’s presence, and drama, with grace, while her Compliance made her the most 'traditional' and grounded lawyer in the firm.
The Realist. As a powerful District Attorney, Renée is the "High D" reality check. She is assertive, confident, and unapologetic about her power and sexuality. She's extremely sociable and a great singer when opportunity arises at the bar downstairs.
The Dreamer. Driven by a powerful High Influence, Ally lives for human connection and emotional validation.
Her world is a "Living Internal Dialogue" where her imagination often overrides reality. Her Secondary 'S' nature makes her a people-pleaser who struggles with the confrontational nature of litigation, yet her empathy allows her to connect with juries in ways the more clinical "High C" lawyers cannot.
View: Ally McBeal, the favourite dramcom of the 1990s was a blend of exceptional music, emotonal situations and comic fun. Return here after watching the video.
The Sub-Zero. Nelle is a high-functioning "D/C" profile who values competence over camaraderie. Her Dominance is cool and calculated, and her Compliance is seen in her flawless legal execution, with little patience for the high emotional environment.
The Realist. Ling is the ultimate High 'D'—blunt, assertive, and possesses zero filter for social niceties. she has a total lack of "S" concern for others' feelings; she demands immediate results, preferring direct conflict to reach a resolution.
